31 FRANCE From the Newsletter of Tom and Lucy Blanchard
"...and the rain fell in torrents, so much so that we could have baptized them outside"
Well, we almost didn’t need the baptistry yesterday at church. Three of our young people gave clear testimony to their faith in Christ and were baptized in front of a more-than-standing-room-only crowd at the Albertville church. Our little building normally seats about 80, but we’ve had more than 100 at times. Yesterday we think there may have been nearly 180 people: family, friends, neighbors, and some totally new people. They were sitting in the hallway and standing in the covered courtyard with the doors open. We were astounded. And for May 30, the weather was unbelievably cold; the sky was almost black all morning, and the rain fell in torrents. But there was light and joy in our midst. I had the privilege of preaching Jesus Christ from that great passage in Isaiah 55: “Lo! Everyone who is thirsty…come !”

We’ve had serious space issues this last year, and we desperately need a new place to meet, both for worship and for teaching. Obstacles are many, from the financial challenge for our people, to the highly difficult problem of getting the city to allow us to purchase or build somewhere. A new mosque in Albertville? No problem (they’ve started it already). But an evangelical church? Legally, there should be no obstacle. But in practice, our colleagues throughout the country have some incredible stories of opposition to tell. Yet our God is certainly not hindered by men. Pray for His Word as it continues to go forth and touch the hearts of people, whether we have buildings or not.
