As the one year anniversary of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan approaches, a great deal of work has been accomplished for those devastated by the earthquake, and yet at the same time, there is still a great deal yet to be done.

In most areas the wreckage (estimated to be equivalent to 30 years worth of garbage) has been gathered and sorted into "mountains", where it awaits final disposal. While basic roads and bridges are now mainly passable, only minimal rebuilding has taken place, and many communities still lack a clear perception of kind of rebuilding is even possible. Keep in mind that this is a long term "operation", the real results of which, we will probably not know for another decade. We need continued prayers and support for these efforts long after Japan ceases to be in the news. As well, while many of the Japanese people have their current physical needs met, the healing of their deeper emotional and spiritual needs is part of this longer recovery.

HIV/AIDS initiatives in Africa are a dime a dozen and they have met with varying success. The result is often less than an observable dip on an incidence curve that is spiraling out of control. We are not interested in adding to the graveyard of projects that already exists because the driving forces of Western funds and personnel were discontinued. Our desire is to see an African “owned”, grass-roots movement that will effectively impact the situation and be sustained long-term because their heart is in it. The initiative will continue long after funds from the West serve as a catalyst.
