![]() HIV/AIDS initiatives in Africa are a dime a dozen and they have met with varying success. The result is often less than an observable dip on an incidence curve that is spiraling out of control. We are not interested in adding to the graveyard of projects that already exists because the driving forces of Western funds and personnel were discontinued. Our desire is to see an African “owned”, grass-roots movement that will effectively impact the situation and be sustained long-term because their heart is in it. The initiative will continue long after funds from the West serve as a catalyst. Our ultimate vision is to see a vibrant, Biblically mature church in Zimbabwe become a model in sub-Saharan Africa in responding with Christ-like holistic ministry to the HIV/AIDS crisis. So while we have outcomes that we envision for the future we will have to be patient and allow God to work in hearts and bring a sense of responsibility and a desire to reach out. TEAM is passionate about coming alongside the Zimbabwe Christian church and infusing it with the inspiration necessary to help the leadership develop a culturally integrated and nationally networked approach. We will identify and develop a local leadership team and create an inventory of current and new programs already in existence. This network will organize and multiply the effectiveness of individuals and connect them to create a team effort in moving forward to reverse the downward spiral of disease and death that is taking such a toll on this nation.
IMPACTTEAM has been in Zimbabwe for 70 years through thick and thin. In recent years TEAM’s reputation for consistent compassionate caring has soared, creating credibility. The culture in Zimbabwe is changing. The old, “I don’t want to get involved” attitude is being replaced by a desperate desire to “Do something, anything” to ease the pain and suffering around them. Won’t you join us in moving forward? OPPORTUNITYIt’s easy to feel overwhelmed or become discouraged by the immensity of the task that lies before us – dealing with all the consequences of HIV/AIDS and changing the course of nation. Can we really make a difference? Thankfully we don’t carry the entire burden on our shoulders alone. We can be a part of what God is doing. Perhaps the ZIM TEAM Alliance is your answer to the question, “What can I do, Lord!” PROJECT COORDINATOR
Bud & Mandy both grew up in Zimbabwe. They have ministered in Zimbabwe for more than 20 years and more recently have been TEAM of Canada’s West Coast Regional Director. They are now returning to Zimbabwe to coordinate TEAM’s HIV/AIDS work in Africa.
